Year end appeal father and daughter

Dear Friend,

"Don't worry about the cost." That's the best thing we can tell families coping with serious illness and loss when they worry about being able to access the compassionate care provided by Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island. We are able to say it, and mean it, only because of kind friends like you.

Thanks to you and other generous supporters, we never turn anyone away -- regardless of their ability to pay -- when they need exceptional hospice or palliative care.

While your support gives us the ability to, without charge, serve and comfort Rhode Islanders in need, this doesn't mean the services are cost-free for us. Considerable costs are involved, which I will describe in a moment. But first, I want to seek your help in sustaining our 41-year tradition of caring for everyone in need.

Consider just a few examples ...

  • Your tax-deductible gift of $50 could cover a quarter of the cost of transporting a home-bound hospice patient to our inpatient center for pain management.
  • A $75 donation from you would be enough to provide half a day of hospice care to a terminally-ill patient in their home.
  • And if you give $100, it could help provide one counseling session for a child who has lost a sibling or parent - helping to reduce stress and anxiety.

If you could show your support today, it would help bring hope to local families in many meaningful ways.

Other frequent expenses include $35 for the cost of a professionally-led community bereavement session for a neighbor dealing with the grief and loss of their spouse...$650 to provide one day of care at our Philip Hulitar Hospice Center...and $15 to cover the cost of three days of in-home oxygen therapy for someone struggling to breathe.

These individual costs add up quickly when you consider that Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island provides care and support services for more than 4,000 people in our area annually.

That's why I am so grateful for friends like you. And it's why we are hoping you will step up again with a contribution to help those that need our services. Our supporters sometimes ask me what size donation would make the biggest difference for people in our area who are coping with serious illness and loss.

I tell them the same thing I am sharing with you now: every gift makes a difference.

That's because each dollar someone contributes to our work is a dollar we didn't have before. Plus, each donation is used with maximum efficiency to ease the pain and grief of people who count on us for compassionate care. Please keep that fact in mind as you consider our request for an extra measure of support. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you, as always, for being a partner in our mission...and a true friend to people in need of hospice and palliative care.

P.S. Many folks are surprised when I tell them Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island provides a wide range of care free of charge. It's a welcome surprise for people who feared they would have to go it alone in the final stages of life or while caring for a loved one who is in pain. On behalf of those people -- and all the neighbors we will care for this summer -- please be as generous as possible with your next contribution.
